People dont understand what it does and ask "What does it do exactly?"
Well in basic terms, the Google Base component you install in to your Joomla website allows you to add extra information to each product within your VirtueMart store that cant be added through the VirtueMart product page.
For example in VirtueMart you cant add in an ISBN, MPN, UPC, Genre, Year of manufacturer, Multiple Sizes, Multiple Colours, Tax Rates per product, Shipping Rates per product, or anything else... just the fields that VirtueMart gives you which is very basic.
Of course you can add these into the description, but you need a way for a computer script to find them in the same place every time and then use them.
Googles Product Search needs the above bits of info called Attributes, otherwise they wont be accepted. This is because it uses the info to compare products on your site against other products on other peoples sites. This makes sure it is comparing the same products and not 2 different ones that are similar but totally different.
So the component sees all the products in your catalogue and then lets you add in more info.
It then merges the info from your VirtueMart product page, to the new info in the component, and makes it look like one lot of info for that one product.
It then passes that info to the plugin, which then converts that to a document that Google can read, and either sends it to Google for you, or creates the document and allows Google to collect it.
