Virtuemart Google Base Products Introduction | Print |

VirtueMart Google Base Product Plugin for Joomla 1.5.X Native and VirtueMart 1.1.X
(Formerly Known as "VirtueMart Froogle Feed")

For the past few years we have been building "VirtueMart Froogle Feed", which we have now renamed "Joomla Google Base Product Plugin".

What does it do?
It sends all the products you have from your VirtueMart Shop, into Google Base for free. You can adjust the settings in the Plugin, which changes how often you want it uploading to Google and what info it takes with it.
You can see Google Base here

What do you get?
Well when you subscribe you get 1 full year’s access to the download area of this Feed generator, this means for one year you will have my teams support as well as access to all upgrades and patches to fix any bugs we may find. Bugs are usually caused because Joomla and VirtueMart are for ever changing, so we need to keep up to our scripts up-to-date to match any changes they do.

What will i have access to in the download area?
The download area you will have access to is for this specific extension only which takes your product data from VirtueMart and adds it into Google Base for people to search and find your products. You will not have access to the Property or Vehicle system we have developed; to have access to them you must click on those extensions in the menu to the right of this text.

What are the minimum requirements of this extension?
We build all of our extensions to work with PHP5, as this is what Joomla 1.5 is based around. You will also need Joomla 1.5.X and VirtueMart 1.1.X. it will not work with any of the Joomla 1.0 or VirtueMart 1.0 versions at all. It will work with Legacy turned on or off, its up to you.

How do I download your extension?
You need to sign up to the site as you would any other Joomla site. Once you are signed up and you click on Download in the right hand menu, you will be asked to subscribe if you haven't done so already, just click on the PayPal logo and it will take you to PayPal, collect the payment and send you back. When your back here it will add a full year’s subscription to your account and you will have access to the download area.

The reason you need to sign up and then subscribe, is because Joomla needs to know which account to add the subscription to.

Does it expire when the subscription ends?
No it doesn’t, the only thing that happens is you won’t have access to the download area any more, but the plugin will keep working as it has been.

Why don’t you do life time support like other people?
We used to, and found it was an absolute disaster and we nearly had to close the entire project down. We first built Version 1.0 many years ago when Joomla was a little baby (V1.0.5 i think) and VirtueMart was just starting on Joomla development from Mambo. But then Joomla 1.0.13 came along and it changed quite a bit, requiring us to rebuild most of the script, which was done for free to those who had subscribed including them 2 years before. Then a few months later they announced that Joomla 1.5 and VirtueMart 1.1 will be released which was a complete rebuild from the ground up taking about 3 months to do.

So since our extension is based on another script which we have no control over, we can’t give away a lifetime support for one tiny cost, as if we have let’s say 5000 clients and all of a sudden in Joomla 2.0 it needs another rebuild that will take us months of research and development (like it did in Joomla 1.5) we can’t do that and give it to people who paid a few pounds in 2006 as well and full support. It just isn’t good business sense at all.
